Losing keys happens. The question that matters is a different one: who found them, and do they know where you live?
The Italian State Police, in its advice, says that if keys are lost it is wise to have the lock replaced. The reason is simple: the key you lost still opens your door.
What to do
- First check whether you lost them at home or outside. If they are outside and you can't find them, don't wait days.
- If you have a cylinder with standard keys, have new copies cut: but a new copy doesn't cancel the lost key. Changing the cylinder does.
- If you also have a Nuki smart lock, updating who can get in is simpler, without having to recut keys.
- Don't write your address on the key ring.
